Chhello Show As India’s Official Entry To Oscars 2023: Criticism is pouring in for Gujarati movie ‘Chello Show’ being chosen for the prestigious Oscar nominations, defying expectations. The Federation of Western India Cine Employees (FWICE) has strongly objected to the selection of this movie under India’s official entry to the Oscars, pushing back blockbusters like RRR and The Kashmir Files. FWICE President BN Tiwari demanded that the Film Federation of India (FFI) reconsider its decision. He said that ‘Chello Show’ is not an original Indian film, the selection process is not correct, there are many films like RRR, The Kashmir Files, KGF, it is not reasonable to nominate a foreign film by the jury. Moreover, the existing jury members are biased without having seen the films. FWICE wants a new jury. The present jury should be quashed. Those who have been members for years voted without watching the movie. Tiwari expressed his concern that if ‘Lost Film Show’ is nominated for Oscar, it will have a bad impact on the Indian film industry, which produces the most films. Based on the English movie ‘Last Film Show’, the movie ‘Chello Show’ was made in Gujarati language under the direction of Pan Nalin. FWICE questioned how the jury could select a foreign film bought by Siddharth Roy. He said FWICE would write to Information and Broadcasting Minister Anurag Thakur with their complaints.
A 17-member jury of the Film Federation of India (FFI) selected Cello Show from among 13 entries. The Gujarati language Cello Show movie revolves around the story of a nine-year-old boy. This story is related to Saurashtra in Gujarat. Director Pan Nalin was also born and brought up in Saurashtra. It is his semi-autobiography, said TS Nagabharana, former chairman of the Oscars selection committee.
