It is not uncommon in cricket to encounter short pitch balls. Batters with a lot of skill and experience will not be able to face these dangerous balls bravely. Earlier, Australian cricketer Phil Hughes collapsed on the field due to short pitch balls. Many cricketers have since been injured and there have been calls for a ban on short pitch balls. Recently in Australian domestic cricket, a short pitch thrown by a bowler hit the batter’s helmet and it bounced off. Fortunately, Batter had no injuries. The video of the incident has now gone viral on social media.
The Queensland Bulls and Western Australia clashed on Monday at the Gabba Ground in Brisbane as part of the Australian Indigenous Cricket Marsh Cup. Western Australia fast bowler Cameroon received the green ball as the team batted, wicketkeeper Jimmy Pearson batted in the 28th over of Queensland. The short pitch ball he threw with great speed hit the batter helmet directly. With this it flew slightly and fell to the ground. Immediately all the fellow cricketers went to Pearson and inquired about his condition. The team physio also came on the field and tested the battery and told everyone there was no danger and everyone gasped. While Pearson was at 12 at the time of the incident, he played more aggressively after the ball hit him hard. He made 62 off 50 balls and defended the team. But he was unable to lead the team to victory. Queensland lost the match by 60 runs.
Ouch! Vicious short ball from Cameron Green. Thankfully Jimmy Peirson was OK and went on to make 62 off 50 balls #MarshCup pic.twitter.com/yEJKoTAPtw
