Indian Cricket Team: TeamIndia exits T20 World Cup 2021 Withdrew from the tournament without reaching the semi-finals. Some of the players in the IPL impressed everyone with their performance. They also provided victories for their team. But, criticisms are coming that their names are not being given a place in the team as they are coming to so much fame. However, there are a lot of questions as to why players like Hardik Pandya, who is struggling for form, should be given a chance. Before the start of IPL Phase-2, Team India announced the squad for the T20 World Cup. However, the ICC has revealed that changes can be made in the World Cup squad even after the start of the league. But the selectors did not let that happen. The selection committee, headed by Chetan Sharma, captain Virat Kohli and head coach Ravi Shastri, made only one change to replace Akshar Patel with Shardul Thakur in the last 15.
Not to mention Yuzvendra Chahal, who has taken the most wickets in T20s for India in the last four years. Hardik Pandya, on the other hand, who is not fit, has also joined the team. If you look at the names of the players who have shown excellent performance in IPL Phase-2, it is noteworthy that none of them got a chance in the team.
Rahul Chahar to replace Yuzvendra Chahal ..
Among the team selected for the T20 World Cup, Rahul Chahar is preferred over veteran leg-spinner Yuzvendra Chahal. Many questions are also raised on this. But, the management ignored them too. Rahul’s performance in IPL Phase-2 has been poor. He took just two wickets in four matches. Chahar is not on the farm. Due to this he was eliminated in the remaining matches of Phase 2. He also scored only 43 in the first warm-up match against England. At the World Cup, he had the opportunity to play in only one match. He also scored 30 not out against Namibia.
At the same time Chahal’s performance in IPL Phase 2 was very impressive. He was instrumental in getting RCB to the playoffs. He took 14 wickets in eight matches at the UAE ground. Putting these figures aside, Chahal became the highest wicket-taker for India in the T20I from 2016 until the start of the World Cup. He took 63 wickets in 49 matches at an average of 25.30. However, even after this he did not get a place in the T20 World Cup.
If Hardik is replaced by Venkatesh or Hershel ..!
Everyone knows that Hardik Pandya is not completely fit. He appeared on the bench in the opening matches of IPL Phase-2. In the matches that followed, Nana also had trouble with Fanto. Not much runs came from his bat in Phase 2. Also the actual bowling was not done. However, even after this, the selector, Captain Kohli surprised everyone by giving a place to the big name Hardik in the team.
Hardik Pandya is likely to be replaced by youngster Venkatesh Iyer or Herschelle Patel. Venkatesh Iyer impressed everyone with his performance while playing for KKR in IPL Phase-2. He scored 370 runs as the opener in 10 matches and also took 3 wickets. Iyer may appear in the role of finisher rather than opening for the team. The sixth bowler would also have filled the vacancy.
Speaking of Hershel Patel, he holds the record for most wickets by a bowler in IPL 2021. Apart from taking 32 wickets in the tournament, he also took 15 wickets in 8 matches in Phase-2. Depending on the form, there is a chance that Patel will be included in the team. Herschel is a good fast bowler for the team as well as an all-rounder.
Rituraj Gaikwad ..
Rituraj Gaikwad dominated IPL 2021. Rituraj was instrumental in Chennai Super Kings winning the IPL2021 title. He scored 2 fifties and a century in 9 innings. The 439-run batsman was not given a chance in the World Cup squad despite being in excellent form. In Phase-2, Suryakumar Yadav appeared to be out of rhythm. It would have been nice if Gaikwad had a chance to replace him though.
Apart from this, if we talk about UAE statistics, last year in the IPL, it rained runs with Rituraj Gaikwad batting. In just 6 innings he had a strike rate of 120.71 and 204 runs at an average of 51. However, he was not picked by the selectors for the T20 World Cup.
Land not in form ..
The performance of Bhuvneshwar Kumar, who returned after injury, was nothing special. Bhuvneet, who played 6 matches in IPL Phase-2, took just 3 wickets. He had the opportunity to play with Pakistan in the World Cup. But, the show did not seem to fit his level. Bhubaneswar bowled three overs and scored 25 not out with an economy of 8.30. His balls did not show enough speed in this match.
It would have been nice to have given Avesh Khan a chance to replace Bhuvi. Avesh has been doing well in IPL and domestic cricket for some time now. He was also included in the squad for this year’s tour of England as a net bowler. Also in IPL Phase-2, the young fast bowler took 10 wickets with a 7.06 economy.
