Before the first Test against New Zealand, Team India players practiced in the nets on Tuesday under head coach Rahul Dravid. Led by Ajinkya Rahane, the Indian players took part in a practice session at Green Park in Kanpur. Coach Rahul Dravid closely monitored the players’ practice. As he prepares for the Test series starting November 25, Cheteshwar Pujara made suggestions to Dravid for other senior batsmen. Along with Jayant Yadav, Ishant Sharma, Prasidh Krishna and Mohammad Siraj practiced bowling in the nets.
Suryakumar was included in the squad after KL Rahul missed the Test series. Rahul Dravid also made several references to Suryakumar Yadav at the nets. Along with Rohit Sharma, Rishabh Pant, Jaspreet Bumra and Mohammad Shami, Virat Kohli has been ruled out of the first Test, leaving many key players out of India. With Rahul missing due to injury, Shubhman Gill and Mayank Agarwal will start batting for India.
Shreyas Iyer and Suryakumar Yadav are likely to play in the middle order in the absence of Hanuma Vihari. The Indian spin trio of R Ashwin, Akshar Patel and Ravindra Jadeja also practiced. Captain Kohli, who started training in Mumbai, will lead the team in the second Test starting on December 3 at Wankhede Stadium. India won the series 3-0 in the T20 series.
