IND vs NZ: Rahul Dravid says goodbye to old tradition .. KL Rahul injured for joining Shreyas

Shreyas Iyer Test Debut

India Vs New Zealand 2021: Former captain Sunil Gavaskar on Thursday presented India’s ‘Test Cap’ to Shreyas Iyer. In this way, head coach Rahul Dravid revived the old tradition of offering this respectable hat to celebrities from Indian cricket to debut players. Iyer became the 303rd player to make his Test debut in India. Before the toss against New Zealand, the legendary batsman Gavaskar gave him the cap. Dravid invited former legend Gavaskar to the special event. Earlier in the day, during the T20I series, Dravid handed over the national team cap to one of India’s most successful limited overs bowlers, Ajit Agarkar and debutant Herschelle Patel.

Getting the national cap from former Australian players is becoming a tradition. As part of this, veterans such as Shane Warne, Mark Waugh, Mark Taylor and Adam Gilchrist used to give new players the Australian baggy green cap. Even in India, there is already such a tradition. But, for a while only the captain or senior player or support staff would hand the hat to the debutant player. Dravid proved himself to be a conservative. This seems to be one of the reasons why Sunil Gavaskar was called up to give Iyer a Test cap. Gavaskar said something to W Player Iyer while giving the cap. The new batsmen on the Test team seemed to be listening intently. Then he took the cap and kissed it.

Rahul injured in Iyer’s chance ..
Shreyas Iyer gets a chance to make his debut with the injury of KL Rahul. He was selected for the second time in the Indian Test team. He had earlier replaced Virat Kohli in the last match of the series against Australia in 2017. Interestingly, even then Ajinkya Rahane was the captain of the team. Anil Kumble from Karnataka was also the head coach of the team. Rahul Dravid is currently the coach of Karnataka. In that Test at Dharamsala, Iyer was unable to make his debut as Rahane gave a chance to a bowler.

Shreyas Iyer, 26, plays domestic cricket for Mumbai. He has been a member of the Indian team for the last four years. He made his ODI debut against Sri Lanka in December 2017 and in the T20I against New Zealand in November 2017.
