Ind Vs Sa Priyank Panchal, Rohit Sharma
India vs South Africa: Team India suffered a crushing defeat ahead of the Test series against South Africa starting on December 26. Team opener and vice-captain Rohit Sharma has been ruled out of three Tests in the series due to a hand injury. He was replaced by Gujarat batsman Priyank Panchal who made his entry into the 18-member squad. The BCCI has said that Rohit was injured during the practice session.
Priyank is an Indian captain ..
Priyank Panchal, who replaced Rohit in the Indian team, plays domestic cricket for Gujarat. Priyank, 31, was also the captain of the India-A team that toured South Africa. Priyank has so far played 100 first-class matches and scored 7011 runs at an average of 45.52. These include 24 Centuries and 25 Half Centuries.
Priyank Panchal, who recently played for India in South Africa, scored 96, 24, 0. Panchal, 31, received his second call-up to the Indian Test squad. He was the stand-by player in the Indian team for the previous four-Test series against England at home.
Panchal is known as one of the best opening batsmen. With 100-match first-class experience, Panchal has scored over 7000 runs, including 24 centuries and 25 fifties. In this he did his best in the 2016-17 Ranji Trophy season including 314 not out against Punjab in the breakout. He scored over 1300 runs and became the highest run scorer in the tournament.
Apart from being the opening batsman, Panchal also excels as a right-handed medium-pacer. Has taken 22 wickets so far. He excelled with the bat in the 2016-17 season and gave the Gujarat team its first Ranji Trophy title. He became the team’s highest run scorer with 542 runs in seven matches.
In the 2018-19 Ranji Trophy, Panchal scored 898 runs in nine matches. That same year he scored another 367 runs in eight matches in the Vijay Hazare Trophy. Before embarking on his tour of South Africa, Panchal was instrumental in the Syed Mustaq Ali Trophy, scoring 134 against Maharashtra, 66 against Kerala and an unbeaten 43 against Railways.
As part of India A, Panchal worked with current head coach Rahul Dravid. During his tour of New Zealand in 2020, Panchal scored a century in a match against New Zealand at the Hooghly Oval in Christchurch. In the same game, Shubhman Gill scored a double century and Panchal fell to the corner of the innings. Panchal holds the record for most runs in first-class matches in India since the 2016-17 season.
When India A played against Sri Lanka at home in 2019, Panchal scored 160 runs. However, in the same year, no team from India went to the West Indies. It was one of the best knocks on Panchal’s career. On the day 19 wickets fell in the second unofficial Test in Port of Spain, Panchal impressed with 58 in the first innings and 68 in the second innings. With India winning the match, Panchal was named Player of the Match.
