Virat Kohli may no longer be the Indian captain in any format but he has not reduced his aggression on the field. Before India could score 51 with the bat in the first ODI against South Africa in Parliament, Kohli got into a heated argument with South Africa captain Temba Bauma over the throw. Kohli, who was fielding at the short cover position, threw a throw towards the wicket-keeper end while Bauma was playing a shot towards him. While there may be a small chance of a run-out, the South African captain was not satisfied with the force with which Kohli threw the ball to his end.
Seeing him complaining about the throw, Kohli did not back down. Proteus gave a sharp answer to the star. The video of the whole incident went viral on social media. Meanwhile, Kohli on Wednesday (January 19) surpassed Sachin Tendulkar’s 5,065 runs on foreign soil to become the highest run-scorer in ODIs abroad. He achieved this feat in the first ODI against South Africa here. Kohli scored 51 off 63 balls with the help of three boundaries.
Sri Lanka’s Kumar Sangakkara (5,518) is the highest run scorer in the Overseas ODIs. By the time he reached 27, Kohli had surpassed former captains Sourav Ganguly and Rahul Dravid, who had scored the most runs against Proteas. Kohli is second only to Tendulkar in scoring 2,001 runs in ODIs against South Africa. Kohli is the sixth highest run scorer against South Africa. Along with Tendulkar, Kohli is followed by Ricky Ponting (1,879), Kumara Sangakkara (1,789), Steve Waugh (1,581) and Sivanarayan Chanderpaul (1,559).
