He got a chance in the match against Sri Lanka on January 10, 2020 in Pune. But, he could not impress in this match. When Team India toured England last year, they sent the team under the captaincy of Shikhar Dhawan for a limited overs series on the tour of Sri Lanka. Sanju played three T20 matches in this tour. But, he could not show his ability in any of them. He made his ODI debut on this tour. Sanju played 46 innings in this match. But, he could not turn it into a half-century.

Now Sanju has a chance once again. India also have a wicketkeeper in the form of Ishant Kishan in the series against Sri Lanka. There is no Pant in this series. That is why Pant got a place for Sanju as a backup. Speaking at a press conference, selection committee chairman Chetan Sharma said, “Sanju Samson came into the team as a backup due to the absence of Pant. Sanju is part of our strategy. The most important thing of all is that we are looking at how the Australian wickets are and what players will be useful there. This is the strategy. Our focus is on Sanju. That’s why he was brought into the team.
Sanju Samson is the captain of Rajasthan Royals in the IPL. He has been consistently running in domestic cricket with the IPL. Lack of consistency, however, is evident in his batting.
