The franchises have submitted to the IPL governing body a list of retention players for IPL-2022. However the decision taken by some franchisees comes as a surprise. Kings XI Punjab captain KL Rahul has not been retained. Only two were taken back. Mayank Agarwal was fined Rs. 12 crore, uncapped left arm pacer Arshdeep Singh for Rs. Retained for Rs 4 crore. Sports analysts were surprised that KL Rahul was not taken back. However, Kings XI Punjab coach and former spinner Anil Kumble responded. He said Rahul had decided to enter the auction pool before IPL-2022. That is why he was not taken back.

“Rahul is our main player. Naturally we wanted to keep him going. This was one of the reasons we chose him as captain 2 years ago. He could be the main person for the team. But he decided to go to auction. We respect that decision. This is a player’s privilege, ”said Anil Kumble. Rahul has been consistently excelling in the IPL. The IPL has scored more than 600 runs in three of the last four seasons. However, Rahul was unable to lead the PBKS to the play-offs as the rest of the team failed to bat.

The Ahmedabad and Lucknow franchises have until December 25 to select their three players. KL Rahul could pick one of the two new teams. If Rahul is not selected by the two new teams he will go for a mega auction.
