Uppalapati Krishnamraju, who has made a name for himself as a rebel star in movies, has made his mark in politics as well. He worked as a Union Minister and gained recognition as a politician. He attracted everyone’s attention by winning the MP for the first time on behalf of the Bharatiya Janata Party from Kakinada Lok Sabha constituency in the united East Godavari district. Krishnamraj got lucky in politics after joining BJP. In 1998, he contested from Kakinada Lok Sabha seat and won by a huge margin of 67,799 votes against the nearest candidate Thota Gopalakrishna of Telugu Desam Party. In that election, Krishnam Raju got 3,30,381 votes. The nearest candidate Thota Gopalakrishna got 262,582 votes. Krishnam Raju won on behalf of BJP by contesting alone without any alliance and created Oricard. He worked as Kakinada MP only for one year. In 1999 elections, he contested as MP from Narasapuram and won. In those elections, he created a record by winning against Congress candidate Kanumuri Bapiraju with a majority of 1,65,948 votes. Being his own district, Krishnam Raju won a huge majority. After winning as MP for the second time, the BJP leadership honored him with the post of Union Minister. He served as Union Minister from 2000 to 2004. He served as Union Minister of State in the then Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee’s cabinet.
