Indian spinners Yuzvendra Chahal and Kuldeep Yadav have reiterated the impact of former captain MS Dhoni on their rise in international cricket. Chahal and Kuldeep both enjoyed a lot of success while playing with Dhoni. Speaking to Ravichandran Ashwin on his YouTube channel, Chahal recalled the 2018 T20I match against South Africa in 2018. He said the experienced wicketkeeper came up to him during a tough spell on the Proteas and boosted his confidence.
“Allout for 64 in the T20I against South Africa in 2018. (Heinrich) Klaasen Park smashed in my bowling. Then Mahi (Dhoni) Bhai asked me to round the wicket. I did it right but he hit a six in mid-wicket. Then Mahi Bhai came to me. What should I do now? ‘ I said. He said, ‘Nothing, I came to you by chance.’
I know this is not your day, you are trying but it is not happening. Chahal explained that Dhoni told him not to think too much and to stay cool after finishing your four overs. “If someone scolds us at that point, our confidence will go down. I have realized that sometimes you excel in cricket and sometimes you do not. “It simply came to our notice then. Chahal, who has been battling this form lately, hopes to make adjustments in the upcoming white-ball series against the West Indies. India and West Indies will play three ODIs in Ahmedabad from February 6, followed by three T20s in Kolkata from February 16.
