Kushinagar International Airport was inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The newly opened Kushinagar International Airport connects Buddhist pilgrimage sites around the world. Today, the Prime Minister will lay the foundation stone for a medical college in Kushinagar as well as several other development projects. The event was attended by hundreds of Buddhist monks including CM Yogi Adityanath, Civil Aviation Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia, Governor Anandi Ben and Sri Lankan Minister Namal Rajapaksa.
Kushinagar is an international Buddhist pilgrimage site. It was here that Gautama Buddha’s Mahaparinina took place. It is the third international airport in Uttar Pradesh. The first flight to the airport came from Colombo, Sri Lanka. The center built the airport at a cost of Rs 260 crore. Its terminal is spread over 3,600 square meters. Kushinagar International Airport Runway is 3.2 km long and 45 m wide. This is the longest runway in UP. It can take up to 8 flights per hour on its runway. Travelers can visit Lumbini, Bodh Gaya, Sarnath and Kushinagar. Apart from this, it is possible to travel to Sravasti, Kaushambi, Sankisha, Rajgir and Vaishali in a short time.
