All the major parties are working towards the goal of winning this election. Compared to other parties, the BJP is going a bit aggressive. Recently, former cricketer Dinesh Mongia joined the BJP. At the same time, the BJP gave a crushing shock to the Congress. Two sitting MLAs from the Congress party, Fateh Singh Bhajwa and Balwinder Singh Laddi, also took part in the Kamala Tirtha. They joined the BJP in the presence of Union Minister Gajendrasingh Shekhawat. Former cricketer Dinesh Mongia says he is joining the BJP to serve the people. He said no other party has worked for the development of the country other than the BJP.
After joining the BJP, former cricketer Dinesh Mongia said that he would try to start a new innings on a new pitch in life. He said the BJP membership was influenced by BJP ideology and best practices. “We have the full support of the people of Punjab and we are confident that we will do better,” he said. At the same time, the farmer brothers will be on our side in the elections.
Soon after joining the BJP, there was talk that the BJP might field its candidate from Dera Bassi of former cricketer Dinesh Mongia. In fact the Dera Bassi Assembly seat is an important assembly seat in Punjab. The seat is currently held by the Shiromani Akali Dal. In the 2017 elections, Akali Dal candidate Narinder Kumar Sharma defeated Indian National Congress candidate Deepinder Singh by just 1,921 votes. According to party sources, the BJP is likely to emerge victorious in the by-elections. In fact the Dera Bassi assembly seat falls under Patiala. Praneeth Kaur, wife of Captain Amarinder Singh, is the Congress MP from this parliamentary constituency. However, Captain Amarinder Singh is currently in an election battle with the BJP alliance. BJP factions feel that this seat will be beneficial to the BJP in such circumstances.
Dinesh Mongia started his cricket career playing for Punjab in the 1995-96 season. This was followed by Dinesh Mongia making his international debut in 2001. He played his first ODI International against Australia. Dinesh Mongia was also a member of the 2003 World Cup runner-up team. He last played a cricket match for Punjab in 2007. He then decided to play in the Indian Cricket League (ICL). However, the Cricket Board banned him for his decision. On the other hand, in September 2019, Dinesh Mongia announced his retirement from all forms of cricket.
In Punjab, the BJP is facing elections in alliance with Amarinder Singh’s Punjab Lok Congress-affiliated SAD. The BJP has allied with two other parties for the Punjab Assembly elections. The Punjab Lok Congress, led by former chief minister Amarinder Singh, will contest the elections in alliance with the Shiromani Akali Dal (United) led by Sukhdev Singh Dhindsa. The alliance was recently confirmed by Union Minister Gajendra Shekhawat.
