Australia beat Pakistan in the second semi-final of the T20 World Cup. Former India opener Gautam Gambhir, however, lashed out at Australian batsman David Warner for hitting a six off Mohammad Hafeez. In the eighth over bowled by Pakistan bowler Hafeez, the first ball slipped from his hand and bounced twice. Warner came forward and hit a six over the deep midwicket. Warner had two more runs in the ensuing Nobel. Australia scored 13 runs in that over due to that six. Australia chased down Pakistan’s 177-run target with five wickets in hand with one over to spare. “Warner did not show sportsmanship! What to say? ” Gambhir tweeted that Warner should have left it as the delivery slipped out of Hafeez’s hands.
However, there is no rule that such delivery should be considered dead. Indian senior off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin, who has been criticized in the past for running out Jose Butler at the non-strikers end in the IPL, was responding to a tweet by Gambhir. “It simply came to our notice then. If it’s wrong, it’s also wrong. An accurate estimate? ” Ashwin tweeted. ”Really amazing hit. Great shot, ”wrote the Indian senior off-spinner. Warner scored 49 off 30 balls.
Batting first in the match, Pakistan lost four wickets in the allotted 20 overs and scored 176 runs. Opener Rizwan scored 67 off 52 balls. Captain Babur Azam scored 39 off 34 balls. Faqir Zaman scored 55 off 32 balls. Among the Australian bowlers, Starc took two wickets, while Hazlewood and Jampa took one wicket each.
