“We will play a three-match ODI series against Ireland in the second week of January. This will be followed by a T20 match at Sabina Park. I think this match would be the best opportunity for Gayle to say goodbye at his home if the spectators were allowed in. However, Ricky clarified that the final decision on whether the match against Ireland would be Gayle’s final. He lamented that the statement given by the CEO was misunderstood by the media.

Gayle says this will be his last World Cup after the 2019 ODI World Cup. But he later changed his mind. He played his last ODI against the West Indies on 14 August 2019 in Port of Spain. He played his last Test against Bangladesh on 5 September 2014 in Kingstown.
